I strongly believe that our local, state and federal governments must work together to stop illegal immigration and protect our border. Illegal immigration costs California taxpayers billions of dollars on a yearly basis.

My parents and I came to this country legally because we wanted to work hard and earn the American Dream. Unchecked illegal immigration is unfair to those who come here legally and unfair to the taxpayers who pay for their welfare.

In the State Senate, I will vote to secure our border to stop the flow of illegal aliens and take action to support federal law reforms.

Many of you have contacted me about my position on illegal immigration. It is important to set the record straight on this issue of concern to all voters.

You may have recently received a piece of mail that said it was an Orange County Grand Jury Report. Please do not be fooled by this deceptive mailing that improperly used the name of the Orange County Grand Jury and altered the seal of the County of Orange to mislead you into believing that it was official county business mail. It was not from the Orange County Grand Jury or the Orange County Government.

FACT: I've consistently voted for some of the toughest local laws that help the federal government detain and deport illegal immigrants right here in Orange County, and I am proud to have the endorsement of Ret. State Sen. Dick Mountjoy - known as the "Father of Prop. 187" because of his leading role in fighting illegal immigration.

FACT: My Anaheim City Council vote of August 21, 2007 supported continuing the existing procedures of ICE agents coming into the Anaheim Jail, on a schedule they set, for prisoner review - a procedure that had been in place for more than ten years and was effectively working to the satisfaction of ICE and the Anaheim Police Dept. Felons are evaluated by the ICE agents and those found to be illegal are deported - a policy and practice that I have always strongly supported.

FACT: I have never sided with the A.C.L.U or other advocates for Open Borders on any issue at any time whatsoever.

MY PLEDGE TO YOU: In the State Senate, I will vote to:

1. Secure the border;
2. Stop government giveaways and welfare handouts to illegal immigrants;
3. Require identification for voting;
4. Demand that students speak, write, and read English before graduation; and
5. Make sure that illegal immigrants never get drivers' licenses.
