Harry's Pre-Election Message to the Community

by Harry Sidhu

October 2004

I am running for Anaheim City Council because I know that a city that can attract millions of visitors can do wonderful things for its residents.

We, the residents of Anaheim, deserve the city's full attention, and when I am elected that is exactly what we will get.

My priorities are clear.

First, I want to do everything we can to rescue our city from the spiraling increase in street crime of the last year.

Second, we must work to always attract new jobs and keep taxes low.

Preventing crime and violence - and insuring the safety of every resident is our city's first responsibility. When crime increases, our city's priorities must change.

Last year crime in Anaheim increased at over twice the rate of Los Angeles County - and nearly four times as fast as the State of California.

With numbers like that, you can't just respond, you need to actively search for solutions that will take the threat off the street, out of the school yard, and away from our homes for good.

Early in my career, I was trained to fight fires.

The large industrial blazes that I fought seared into my memory the demands placed on the brave officers we rely on for our safety. We must support their commitment to serve with a City Council that will make sure they have the resources to serve us.

My children attend Anaheim public schools. My wife and I

are active in the PTA and I coach my son's soccer team. I can't imagine a higher priority for government than keeping thugs off our playgrounds and out of our parks.

Kids can't learn when they are threatened by violence. Every parent must feel safe enough to let their children play outside if we are all going to be proud to call Anaheim home.

Harry's Message to the Community

My commitment to keeping every child safe has earned me the endorsement of our Orange County Board of Education  member Alexandria Coronado, Ranch Santiago Community College Board member Lisa Woolery and South Orange County Community College Board president Don Wagner.

As I stated before, bringing more jobs and keeping our taxes low is my next priority...

All who are willing to bring quality jobs that strengthen our community should be welcome in Anaheim. And we must welcome them with low taxes and as lean, job friendly government that understands business while valuing the needs of residents.

I have built my business from raw dirt lots into restaurants that employ over 250 people, many in our city.

I worked my way through college, earning my degree in engineering during the day while working at night.

Once I started my career as a registered engineer, I worked nights and weekends as a real estate broker. From those first years, I worked with different cities and governments. I know how to fight bureaucratic red tape.

That is why I was so disappointed recently when a quality supermarket had to spend a small fortune on attorneys and fight all the way to the City Council just to open.

What about the businesses that can't afford to spend tens of thousands? What about the shops and stores and small companies that we need to keep our tax base solid and our neighbors and ourselves employed?

Pointing fingers and blaming someone else does not protect a single job.

When I am on the City Council, I will stop the blame game and put my twenty years of land planning and business experience to work by attracting new jobs while making sure that our neighborhoods are protected from potential harmful impacts.

I am proud to have endorsement of Gann Taxpayer Organization because they know I will fight to keep taxes low. They trust me to cut government waste where it exists and they know I have the experience to make a difference.

Next year, the growing state budget crisis could cut millions of dollars in state funding from Anaheim's budget. If that happens, many will call for tax hikes.

I am a man of my word. I will not vote to raise taxes. Period. Challenging times call for people who can set priorities and stick to them.

My priority is making Anaheim into a city every resident is proud to call home. I will fight for our residents, because Anaheim is not just a great place to visit - it must be a great place to live.
